Text Box: 2010 marks the 75th anniversary of the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and the beginning of the federal commitment to conserving natural resources on private land.

Originally established by Congress in 1935 as the Soil Conservation Service (SCS), NRCS has expanded to become  a conservation leader for all natural resources, ensuring private lands are conserved, restored, and more resilient to Text Box: environmental challenges like climate change.
 
Seventy percent of the land in the United States is privately owned, making stewardship by private landowners absolutely critical to the health of our Nation’s environment.

Text Box: Text Box: Lawmakers are on spring break this week, but they’ve started a Web site to let Missourians give them ideas on how to run the state.
“We call it ’Rebooting State Government” - you know, hit the ’Control-Alt-Delete button and reboot and find out how we do this in the future,” said Senate President  Pro Tem Charlie Shields in announcing the site.  “We’re going to be Text Box: looking at really innovative solutions.  There’s 5.2 million people in this state, and I’m pretty sure some of them have an idea how we can do it better.”
