The Road to Conservation Starts at Home!

Text Box: Information on our web site (www.maswcd.net), as soon as all arrangements for the group are final.

If you have questions prior to this time, please contact Steve Radcliff (660-247-1255) or Peggy Lemons (573-893-5188 x 3).

Text Box: As an SWCD Board Supervisor you may be questioning what the benefits really are. Everyone has a different level of what they feel are the benefits of being a Supervisor. However, we do have an actual benefit to offer SWCD Board Supervisors of Districts who are members of MASWCD starting soon.

Text Box: to other member groups you may know with AFLAC. Each Supervisor who wants to sign up for AFLAC products (life insurance, short term disability, cancer insurance, etc.) will have the premium billed directly to them. One advantage is that they will also be able to continue the coverage even after they are no longer on the SWCD Board.

More information will be available on this in the near future. The AFLAC representatives plan to be available at the Training Conference this year to answer questions and discuss coverage with anyone who is interested. We will link their contact

Text Box: We have just passed the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. An article in Newsweek, April 26, 2010 reports on progress (or lack of progress) we have made to create a cleaner and better world since the first Earth Day in 1970 such as the following:
Rainfall acidity has decreased.
Ozone layer is slowly recovering.
Emission of six major air pollutants have declined by 60 percent.
Text Box: Atmospheric level of carbon dioxide is increasing rapidly.
The number of animals on the US endangered species list has increased fourfold; seven have gone extinct; at the same time fifteen have recovered.
Energy use per person in the US is unchanged & remains twice that of France & Germany.
In 2008, Americans generated about 38% more tons of trash than in 1970.

We have signed an agreement with AFLAC to offer their AFLAC benefits to SWCD Board Supervisors at a group discount rate similar to what the District employees have.  As I understand it, these rates are very competitive  when   compared
