645 Upland Wildlife Habitat Management – Prescribed burning, Strip Disking, Chemical application, Covey headquarter establishment/Shrub planting, Woody edge feathering, Food plot establishment, and/or Interseeding legumes/native forbs will be used to manage for wildlife habitat. Refer to the attached "Mid-Contract Management Practices for CRP Grasslands", appropriate job-sheets, worksheets, or other information for the requirements and restrictions on each practice.

Prescribed burning should improve wildlife habitat by removing heavy thatch, setting back grasses, and encouraging wildflowers, legumes, and seed-producing plants. An approved prescribed burn plan is required before burning is implemented.

Strip disking should result in 30% to 50% bare ground in the disturbed area to encourage annual forbs and provide brood rearing habitat.

Chemical application should set back the growth of grasses to allow for the growth of wildflowers, forbs, and/or legumes to increase the stand’s diversity. Complete eradication of the grass component in the treated area is not intended.
